Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is scheduled to ceremonially sign Senate Bill 3222 at 10 a.m. Thursday during an event at SWAY Cannabis Dispensary in Chicago.
According to the governor’s office, the ceremony will celebrate legislation intended to advance equity and strengthen oversight in Illinois’ cannabis industry.
According to the governor’s office, an option for media to ask questions is scheduled to follow the event. I was not provided advance notice of the ceremony and, as a result, will be unable to attend in person.
SB3222 makes wide-ranging changes to Illinois cannabis law, including increasing adult-use cannabis possession limits, expanding eligibility for certain cannabis-related expungements, allowing adult-use dispensaries to obtain medical cannabis licenses, and permitting drive-through dispensary service. Among other provisions, there are numerous regulatory changes affecting licensed cannabis businesses and medical cannabis patients.
The event will take place at SWAY Cannabis Dispensary, 3340 N. Halsted St. in Chicago. Because the venue is a licensed cannabis dispensary, entry is limited to individuals age 21 and older.
The governor’s office will livestream the ceremony on the State of Illinois’s live video page. I will share more information as it becomes available.
