Exclusive: Archive of Illinois Cannabis History — Hash Wednesday!

Long before the implementation of regulations and taxation on cannabis in Illinois, a rich and vibrant cannabis culture thrived. This archive stands as one of the most comprehensive records of that era.

Below, you will find photographs, newspaper headlines, press releases, notes, signage, and more, all directly shared with me by participants of past Hash Wednesdays at the University of Illinois.

  1. What an amazing archive and inspiring to see so many contributions from others. A big thanks to everyone who contributed to it and to all those interviewed fror this project. And thank you, Cole, for all your hard work on this and so many other projects. Legalization started from the hard work of those involved here, but its expansion to real freedom depends on the people now picking up the torch from us and forcefully carrying it forward.
