For the first time in six years, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has approved four new conditions eligible for treatment with medical cannabis.
IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra approved the conditions after a board advisory review. The newly added conditions are:
- Endometriosis: Chronic pain and scarring caused by tissue growth outside the uterus.
- Ovarian Cysts: Pain management for fluid- or solid-filled growths on the ovaries.
- Uterine Fibroids: Treatment for chronic pelvic pain caused by benign growths.
- Female Orgasmic Disorder: Assistance for difficulties in achieving orgasm, where cannabis may provide relief.
Qualifying patients must be diagnosed with a debilitating condition, as defined in the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, to be eligible for a medical cannabis registry identification card in Illinois. As of Jan. 9, the list includes:

- Agitation of Alzheimer’s disease
- HIV/AIDS
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Anorexia nervosa
- Arnold-Chiari malformation
- Cancer
- Cachexia/wasting syndrome
- Causalgia
- Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy
- Chronic pain
- Crohn’s disease
- CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome Type II)
- Dystonia
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
- Endometriosis
- Female Orgasmic Disorder
- Fibrous Dysplasia
- Glaucoma
- Hepatitis C
- Hydrocephalus
- Hydromyelia
- Interstitial cystitis
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Lupus
- Migraines
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Myasthenia Gravis
- Myoclonus
- Nail-patella syndrome
- Neuro-Bechet’s autoimmune disease

- Tourette syndrome
