Illinois Craft Growers to See Expanded Opportunities in Cannabis Cultivation

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced new guidelines allowing craft growers to expand their cultivation spaces. Effective immediately, growers can apply for a canopy modification expansion in increments of 3,000, 6,000, and 9,000 square feet, with the possibility of expanding up to a maximum of 14,000 square feet.

To be eligible for this expansion, craft growers must have been operational and selling products for at least two quarters.

Applicants interested in canopy expansion must submit a Canopy Modification Application along with a CRTA Application for Modification or Alteration Request Form. These forms are available on the Division of Cannabis Regulation’s Forms Page, ensuring transparency and accessibility in the application process. The completed forms, accompanied by the initial modification application fee, should be mailed to the IDOA – Division of Cannabis Regulation, headquartered in Springfield, Illinois.

The Department of Agriculture encourages craft growers with questions about the expansion process to reach out via email to the Division of Cannabis Regulation.
